Urdu OER Creation Workshop

Objectives

1. To support the DIET in building teachers’ capacities to create and curate multilevel, multi-modal digital resources in Urdu
2. To enable teachers to use inclusive and innovative approaches to meaningfully integrate these resources as part of their classroom practice
3. To strengthen Urdu teachers' abilities to use contextual digital resources for addressing the language learning needs of children in their classroom
4. To help teachers familiarise themselves with the use of LibreOffice suite for facilitating their academic and administrative tasks and processes.

Session 3	11:30 to 12:15 PM	Tux typing/ GCompris	Practice of the letters and words from the GCompris (Simple letters and falling words), lesson from the Tux typing
Session 4	12:15 to 1:00PM	Urdu Typing	Getting familiarised with the Urdu keyboard and letters - using simple words/ phrases as examples	Handout on Urdu typing
Lunch (1:00 to 1:45 PM)
Session 4	1:45 to 2:30 PM	Continuation of Urdu Typing	Getting familiar with special keys and words or phrases using keys.	Mobile/Laptop
Session 5	2:30 to 3:30 PM	Translating English story to Urdu story using Story books	Each group will work on one story: Teachers are given a English story book and - have each group translate the story and type it in Urdu	Story books

Session 3	11:15 to 12:00 PM	Urdu Voice Typing using Google Docs	1. Demonstration + Hands-on practice of voice typing; 2. Exploring Urdu keyboard on phone.
Session 4	12:00 to 12:30 PM	Translation of text	1. Installing google translator application on phone 2. Translating Urdu voice to text 3. Translating Urdu text using camera
Session 5	12:30 to 1:00 PM	Word text document	1. Formatting text 2. Adding numbers and bullets, header/footers 3. Saving the document in various formats
Lunch (1:00 to 1:45 PM)
Session 6	1:45 to 3:30 PM	Spreadsheet	1. Introduction to spreadsheet, navigating and interfaces. Cells (data element), rows (records), columns, types of data (text, numbers, date). 2. Entering your data in spreadsheet. 3. Providing headings (columns), formatting rows and columns, working with alignment and text wrap. 4. Sorting, filtering your entered data 5. Using basic operations with formulas 6. Creating visual representation of data
