Curriculum and focus areas for the Cascade District Workshops

In the previous two years, teachers have been introduced to the possibilities of integrating ICTs into their working. The programme introduced them to basics of computer literacy, use of emails and internet to interact with each other on mailing lists. Teachers were also trained in various educational tools like Freemind, Geogebra, KGeography, KStars, KTurtle, Marble, PhET, STEP and Stellarium. Many teachers have been using these tools to create learning resources for themselves and for classrooms.

In this year, the programme will focus on the following:

  1. Extending the computer literacy skills for teachers
  2. Introduce the learning possibilities from using the Internet
  3. Using emails and email forums to communicate
  4. Building digital resource libraries
  5. Participate and contribute to the Karnataka Open Educational Resources.

Preparatory steps common to all subjects

  1. Availability of internet and adequate number of computers is very important for this cascade training. The RPs and DIET Nodal Officer should ensure internet availability, with minimum 3 Mbps connection and enough computers to allow 1:1 computer:teacher ratio. In addition, the DIET labs should have Ubuntu installed on them.

To allow for adequate practice, the batch size should be kept to 20. The number of teachers to be trained and number of batched needed is available here.
