Download this geogebra file from this link.
Process (How to do the activity)
- Project the geogebra file that would enable the students to visualise an opened cube.
- Ask the following questions.
- Developmental Questions:
- What is the formula to find the area of a square ?
- What does the term 'area' mean ?
- What is the meaning of total surface area ?
- How many squares are there totally in a cube ?
- Therefore what is the total surface area of a cube.?
- What does the term 'lateral' mean ?
- What is lateral surface area ?
- How many squares are there in a lateral surface of a cube ?
- Hence what is the formula to find the lateral surface area of a cube ?
- What does the term 'volume'mean ?
- What is the formula for volume in general?
- What is the formula for volume of cube ?
- Evaluation
- Were the students able to comprehend the difference between area and volume ?
- Were they able to understand the distinction between the lateral surface area and total surface area ?
- Question Corner:
- What is the formula to find the area for a cuboid cantainer with no lid and with lid ?
- Give some examples of objects which are cuboidal in shape.
